Creating a dramatic Dark Romance mood across AW16, black-on-black lace mixes with devoré velvet and pleated ruffles.

With a maximalist approach, Tea at the Ritz is an emerging trend that takes the society girl as designers’ new muse. Think high-waisted tea dresses that accentuate female form with coloured fur and contrasting textures for eccentricity.

The Urban Streets trend presents youthful silhouettes; leather jackets are oversized, thrown over boyfriend trousers for a downtown vibe. Try out Brady (patchwork boyfriend jeans) or Florence Authentic (cropped, dark denim jeans) from ASOS via EyeFitU to get the look. The early-90s grunge movement influences the Casual Character trend, resulting in prints and layered textures. Think gritty grunge attitude, elevated with a refined heritage check.

The season’s Subversive Minimalism trend shows off simple cuts and clean lines, defining the modern wardrobe with a masculine silhouette of tailored coats, layers and wide-leg trousers.

The trapeze cut evolves for Pre-Fall 16, creating contemporary looks. Becoming feminine in lightweight materials and bias cuts, the shape is seen on voluminous A-line dresses and generously proportioned outerwear.

When it comes to layering, a cool silhouette is achieved with sweaters over dresses or cropped trousers with oversized jackets. It’s 1990s grunge merged with feminine appeal. As masculine silhouettes also gain importance, layering long cuts gains popularity. Warm knits and softness add interest to elongated proportions. Floor-sweeping trousers come wide-legged, appearing fluid, and floaty dresses are touched with a feminine sensibility, evolving from last season’s boho spirit. Snap up the Daydreamer dress by A.F. Vandevorst on EyeFitU to this effect.

In contrast, thigh-grazing styles make a bold statement. This abbreviated form, in cuts of leather, tweed or jersey, is a flirtatious shape. Also making waves next season is a ladylike silhouette, accentuating female form with demure midi-length skirts. Lend an eccentric vibe to this womanly look by contrasting textures from lace to oversized sequins.

For the everyday jean, styles are updated through chopped, sliced and skewed hemlines inspired by the recycled denim looks of Vetements. Attention-grabbing hemlines are uneven in zig-zag shapes that deliver a newfound modern appeal to grunge. The upcycling trend extends to demin jackets too, which appear deconstructed and spliced back together.

Work next season’s trends in colours from salmon pink, vintage blues and sandy camel. Warm amber hues mix with winter red and berry shades (often popular for AW). See EyeFitU’s Desigual collection for a printed T-shirt in this colour of the moment.

Lastly, bold colour combinations in vibrant shades clash with black, reigning supreme as the essential hue.
