Nail new AW18/19 season

What if you could get set for the AW18/19 trends with just five key pieces? Well, with our latest style edit, you can. Read on for the top-to-toe new season essentials…

High-neck top

A sensible and surprisingly sexy choice for the season to come, high-neck styles are timeless. Update your collection by upgrading the classic white shirt with a stand-collar variation. Elsewhere, zip-up variations nod to the street-inspired mood on the catwalks. Try woven pieces for when the weather dips, while lightweight silks and sheer chiffons are perfect layering pieces this autumn.

Say meow to the new season one-piece! Driven by a surge of 1980’s styling, this brave look is for the statement makers. As seen at Off White, the catsuit was reimagined in sleek sportif renditions, alluding to the Future Sport trend. For partygoers, look to catsuits with cut-out detailing, bold print or all-over sequins to hit the dance floor in. Think of it as the AW18/19 alternative to leggings and try styling under oversized outerwear for a more casual take.

Midi skirt

The classic midi skirt is back – or did it ever really leave? Fresh, feminine and timeless, they speak to the coming season’s Soft Nostalgia trend. Derek Lam chose bold tones of green and you’ll find wholesome shades of navy, brown and beige are popular too. The details to note are splits, large pockets and pleats but the likes of Loewe make a case for minimal surfaces instead. Heavier fabrics such as suede, tweeds and wool-blends will take centre stage in the new season across A-line, full silhouettes.

Cropped wide-leg jeans

A high waistline is essential for next season. Tonal paneling is optional with contrast-tone designs making waves too. MIH Jeans and Redone show off flared legs in slim or loose cuts. Whichever shape flatters you best, cropped jeans are most wanted next season. Look to retro-tinged or stonewashed designs for those hi-lo styling moments; they’ll counteract tailored outerwear that’s picking up pace up top.

Platform shoes

The disco platform is no longer just a partywear staple. Infiltrating streetwear, they’re now seen with sports socks for gritty-glam appeal. If you’re looking for elegance, style with tights and shined socks for a more refined look. Chunky heels and ankle straps make this choice super wearable – they may look like killer heels, but they feel the opposite. If you go for wedge soles, even better. Be inspired by Miu Miu, Ashish, Marc Jacobs and more and snap up glitter stripes, patent finishes, velvet materials and stud embellishments.
